Your Rights Under Florida’s Workers’ Compensation Act
Workers’ compensation will cover the entirety of an employee’s medical bills related to a work-related accident, including hospitalization, doctor’s visits, medical tests, prescription drugs and physical therapy. You may also be eligible for some reimbursement to cover vocational training and job placement services if the accident resulted in a disability that impacted your ability to work your current job. Workers’ comp only covers a portion of lost wages (up to two-thirds of your pre-injury weekly wage).
If you sustained a disability from your workplace accident that’s temporary, you could receive up to 66.67 percent of your normal wage (limited to $971 per week) each week for 104 weeks. If your disability is total and permanent, such as a severe spinal cord injury or amputation, you may be able to receive that same percentage every week of your life until you reach 75 without a cap. A partial, permanent disability will warrant a longer compensation period than a temporary disability but might not be a lifelong benefit.
