Verdicts & Settlements: Central Florida Jury Awards Student Injured In Bus Crash More Than $425,000

Orlando, FL – The Firm’s Personal Injury Litigation Practice scored a trial victory last month when an Orange County (FL) jury awarded our client more than $425,000 for injuries sustained from a bus crash seven years ago.

In August 2016, our client, who was 16 years old at the time, was one of over 100 high school students traveling on a chartered bus caravan from Orlando to Kentucky for a church competition. While traveling through the night, the trip was cut short when a bus in the group rear-ended the bus our client was traveling on. Both bus drivers involved in the crash were employed by the same company, VIP Jet Tours.

At just 16 years old, the bus crash changed the course of our client’s life. Throughout the entire case, the Defendant, VIP Jet Tours, disputed that the bus crash caused our client’s injuries, despite her having to undergo years of treatment and surgery to her hip. The Defendant even disputed liability for the crash until the very eve of trial and did not make a reasonable offer for settlement before trial.

After six days of trial and three and half hours of deliberations, the jury agreed with Kanner & Pintaluga attorneys Joseph AbdallahMonica Besbris, and Leon Hunter and returned a verdict for $429,312.72 to compensate our client for her injuries. In addition, our client will be entitled to collect prevailing party costs from VIP Jet Tours.

The case is Diana Trujillo v. VIP JET TOURS d/b/a Pegasus Bus, Alberto Angulo and Rafael Rivera, Case No: 2020-CA-0031310 in the Circuit County of the 9th Judicial Circuit, Orange County Florida.
