Tallahassee, FL – Co-Founder and Principal of Kanner & Pintaluga, Howard Kanner, traveled with a contingent of Firm partners to the State Capitol yesterday in support of Firm clients, Farrah Fox and her father, Ira, both of whom testified before Florida state lawmakers urging them not to support House Bill 837 and it’s companion, Senate Bill 236.

In July 2018, Farrah Fox suffered a traumatic brain injury when an off-duty Palm Beach County Sheriff deputy ran a stop sign in Delray Beach, Florida and T-boned the vehicle she was driving while on her way to work. Following the crash, Farrah spent two weeks on life support and was in a coma for 30 days.  As a result of her injuries, she had to learn to walk and talk again and required specialized care which she would not have received if this bill was in place five years ago.

“Medicaid does not provide that kind of care,” said Ira Fox, Farrah’s father, while testifying before the panel of lawmakers. “Please, you cannot limit this! We’re not here for Farrah. We’re here for the hundreds of other people that this is going to happen to, through no fault of their own.”

The Bill, if passed, would prevent victims from getting the help they need while recovering from catastrophic injuries. It would place a cap on what insurance companies would be required to pay for care at private rehabilitation facilities like the ones that treated Farrah.

“This Bill amounts to politicians using a machete to fix an issue in need of a scalpel,” said Howard Kanner. “Insurance rates won’t decline with these changes and the insurance companies will enjoy larger profits and become even more emboldened.”
