Attorney Monica Besbris Named Chair of the FJA’s E. Earle Zehmer Memorial Mock Trial Competition

Orlando, FL – Kanner & Pintaluga Attorney Monica Besbris has been named Chair of the highly regarded Florida Justice Association’s E. Earle Zehmer Memorial Mock Trial Competition which is set for November 4-5, 2023.

From the start of Monica’s legal career, trial advocacy has been her passion. While in law school at Nova Southeastern University (NSU), Monica served as an Executive Board Member for the NSU Moot Court Society, where she not only competed in several nationwide moot court competitions, but also dedicated her time to mentoring members of the NSU community. Monica was recognized for her persuasive writing abilities, earning her an award for “Best Brief” by the Moot Court Society. Ultimately, this passion earned her the prestigious honor of admission to the Order of the Barristers, an award given to the ten best overall advocates of the graduating class.

As Chair of the upcoming Mock Trial, Monica will oversee this year’s competition which includes selecting the ideal venue for it. Last year, the event occurred at the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building in Miami, Florida over Veteran’s Day weekend. The Mock Trial competition presents a tremendous opportunity for the brightest law students from Florida’s leading law schools to hone their skills while on their journey to becoming professional advocates. The students compete for scholarships and winner’s accolades.

The annual mock trial competition is hosted by the FJA’s Young Lawyers’ Section and is named after the Honorable E. Earle Zehmer who was appointed to the 1st District Court of Appeal in 1983 and served as the Court’s Chief Justice from 1993 until his passing in 1996. The judge was widely known for his extreme integrity.
