Miami, Florida – The Firm’s Property Damage Practice recently achieved a $2 million settlement for a client related to property damages caused by Hurricane Irma.
In October 2017, in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, our client filed a claim with their insurance company for property damages to their two-story apartment complex. As a result of the storm, the building sustained over $1 million in damages to the roof and interior portions of some of the units.
Relying on a team of engineers, contractors, and adjusters along with citing that the property was built in the 1990’s, the insurance company denied the claim and no payment was issued to our client. Following the denial, our client then attempted to resolve the matter pre-suit — even participating in a pre-suit mediation — in an effort to settle the claim. Again, the claim was denied and they were offered nothing. Left with no other option, our client filed suit and the case was removed to Federal Court.
After a year of extensive litigation with the insurance company, Kanner & Pintaluga attorneys Max Messinger y Pritpal Singh were able to negotiate a $2 million settlement for our client. The settlement not only included damages to the property but also included loss of business income.
