The Greenville Police Department confirmed that a pedestrian has been struck and critically injured following a vehicle accident.

According to officials the accident occurred at the intersection of N Academy Street and College Street.

Troopers said a Kissimmee man was walking along the street when a 2009 Toyota Camry drove onto the shoulder of the street. The driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle and climbed onto the roadside, striking the victim.

The impact threw the victim into a bush on the roadside, causing injuries to his knees and one of his ankles in the process.

EMS arrived and administered first aid treatment before transporting him to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Troopers said he was admitted as a trauma alert patience and is presently in the ICU unit. His identity has not been released to the public.

The driver also suffered minor injuries in the crash and was treated at the scene before he was taken into custody.

Authorities say no charges have been filed and the accident remains under investigation.
