Motorcycle Safety: 3 Things To Never Do
According to the National Highway and Safety Administration, motorcycles are 35 times more likely to be involved in fatal accidents compared to cars. For motorcyclist who do not take safety precautions seriously, their chances of being involved in an accident are much greater than those who do. Riding a motorcycle can be extremely dangerous for those who do not keep a few important safety tips in mind. Here are 3 things to NEVER do while riding a motorcycle.
Ride in Between Lanes
Many motorcyclists find that since their motorcycle is much smaller than a vehicle that they can travel between lanes and cars. This is one of the most dangerous things to do. If you travel between lanes and other cars you are putting your life at a high risk. If a car does not see you, they can change lanes on top of you, leaving you seriously injured.
Make sure to stay in your lane and keep a safe distance from other vehicles. Do not risk traveling in between cars to get ahead of traffic. It is not worth risking your life just so you can get to your destination faster.
Forget to Wear Protective Gear
Wearing protective gear is essential to keeping you safe while you are riding. No matter how long or far of a ride you are taking, protective gear can reduce injury and save your life if an accident were to occur. The protective gear you should always wear is a helmet, protective jacket and pants, gloves, and over the ankle boots. Never forget to gear up!
Ride Under the Influence
Riding under the influence is just as dangerous as driving under the influence. As a motorcyclist, it’s just you and your bike on the road. You have to keep in mind that there is nothing to reduce the impact of an accident on a motorcycle. Your body is vulnerable to being directly hit and your at a higher risk of ending up in a fatality accident.
If you are out drinking, call a cab or have a sober friend drive you home. You can pick up your motorcycle the next day when you are sober.
